Simona Velea, PH D, is education researcher within the Institute for Education Sciences (IES) since 1999. She is a member of the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO and acts as national coordinator for citizenship and human rights education within the Council of Europe Network of EDC/HER coordinators.

In 2007-2010 and from January 2014, coordinated the implementation of the eTwinning action in Romania, a LLP/Erasmus+ action involving more than half of the schools in the country. During October 2011-May 2012, she was an international consultant for UNICEF, evaluating the Child-Friendly School Initiative in the Republic of Moldova. Her research activity focused on citizenship and human rights education, programme evaluation, curriculum and teacher training. She was involved in national and European research and development projects run by IES, the Council of Europe, UNICEF, and collaborated with various nongovernmental organizations active in the field of citizenship education and teacher training.
